While it looked like Aston Villa and Sunderland were his only options at this point last week, it appears Mathieu Debuchy may be offered an entirely more salubrious way out of the Arsenal doldrums before the transfer window closes tonight.

After downing tools and calling the Gunners big nasty lying sods (or words to that effect) for picking Hector Bellerin over him this season, Debuchy is desperate to move on in order to restore his chances of being picked in France’s Euro 2016 squad.

Much to the player’s chagrin, Arsene Wenger went on record as saying Debuchy was “likely to stay” at Arsenal during the window, but a white knight may have just appeared on the horizon in the shape of Louis van Gaal.

Indeed, t’s being reported by the Daily Mail that Manchester United are weighing up a “shock loan” for the French right-back, who they have identified as decent enough cover for their ravaged defensive ranks.

Much, much stranger things have happened. Stay tuned.
