In an interview at the Oxford Union which looks to have been chaired by Will McKenzie from The Inbetweeners, Manchester United legend Ruud van Nistelrooy produced a rather witty quip when asked about his famous Arsenal adversary Martin Keown.

Van Nistelrooy and Keown clashed in that famous Premier League ‘Battle of Old Trafford’ game back in September 2003, with the United striker involved in the incident which saw Patrick Vieira sent off before missing a last minute penalty, a miss which ultimately helped Arsenal to their historic unbeaten ‘Invincibles’ campaign.

On being told that Keown lives in Oxford, the Dutchman quipped “I thought you had to be clever to live around here”. Quick-witted stuff! His comments come just 40 seconds into the interview…

And just for old time’s sake, here’s a video of that famous game…

Sadly, the last few years of the Premier League have been without a clash of such intensity as the ones played out by United and Arsenal in those classic years.

Man City-Chelsea games have never really hit those heights, have they? Maybe Leicester versus Tottenham next season!?
