Despite an overall disappointing season for Manchester United (despite the FA Cup win), Anthony Martial was one of the shining lights in Louis van Gaal’s last season with the Red Devils.

Now, the French attacker can add the Premier League Goal of the Season gong to his Cup winner’s medal, after fans voted his cracking curler against Stoke City as the best strike of the 2015/16 campaign.

The goal came in the Red Devils’ 3-0 home win back in February, with Martial finishing off a superb team move with an even better strike…

The ‘Premier League Goal Cup’ voting system utilised Twitter, with Christian Benteke’s fabulous bicycle kick for Liverpool against none other than Man Utd coming second. And with no Arsenal goals put up for nomination, this was one vote Gooners couldn’t hijack.

It’ll be very interesting to see how Martial develops under Jose Mourinho.

I’m a United fan, and while this was a great moment in our season, I don’t feel it was goal of the year for the whole league. Just shows the voting base of the bigger clubs in United and Liverpool, I thought Ritchie and Alli both scored better goals.

I agree Savave. There were 20 goals like this last season. Seriously!

and Van Gaal got sacked for not playing free-flowing attacking football…

Far from the best goal of the season. Alli’s wonder-shot eats it for breakfast! Just compare the two, see how much time and space Martial had to aim and kick properly compared to that wizardry Alli pulled surrounded by enemies.
