Paul Pogba lined out for Manchester United for the first time since March 2012, as the returning superstar helped the Red Devils to a convincing 2-0 victory at home to Southampton. However, it was another superstar summer-signing who really lit up Old Trafford, with Zlatan Ibrahimovic scoring twice on his Old Trafford debut.
Ibrahimovic’s first goal of the night came on 36 minutes, with the Swedish striker powering home a fine header from a Wayne Rooney centre.

Ibrahimovic’s second goal came after the break, after Luke Shaw had been (very lightly) clipped in the box by Jordy Clasie.
The 34-year-old attacker duly converted the resulting spot-kick to make it four goals in his first three competitive games for Jose Mourinho’s side.

United’s second goal came after Southampton had a Dusan Tadic effort disallowed for a foul, but overall the Saints were second best throughout, despite some neat play.
The game saw Rooney make his 600th club appearance and with the mighty Zlatan on fire and Pogba back in the saddle, Mourinho’s megabucks squad are already looking like serious title contenders.
