Wayne Rooney netted his 249th Manchester United goal against Reading on Saturday, equalling the record held by Bobby Charlton, who was watching on at Old Trafford.
United were the better side throughout against former Red Devils Jaap Stam’s Reading, and took the lead after just seven minutes when Rooney cleverly used his knee to score his record-equalling goal from a Juan Mata pass.
The host doubled their lead on 15 minutes, with Anthony Martial firing home.
The Royals managed to stem the tide until the 75th minutes, when Marcus Rashford netted the first of his two goals of the game.
Rashford’s second and United fourth came after a howler from Reading ‘keeper Ali Al Habsi.
Jose Mourinho’s men were well worth the 4-0 scoreline and have now won an impressive eight games in a row.
As for Reading, they can now go back to focusing on getting themselves back into the Premier League for next season.
