Chelsea have matched Manchester United’s offer of £75m for Romelu Lukaku, as the two Premier League heavyweights continue to go head to head for the Everton striker.

Lukaku had initially expected to return to former club Chelsea, with Antonio Conte eager to replace Diego Costa with a top-class target man.

However, after Chelsea dallied over agent Mino Raiola’s huge fee for the deal, ex-Blues boss Jose Mourinho slapped down a hefty £75m to lure the Belgian hitman to Old Trafford.

United looked set to get their man, with ex-Red Devils and Everton defender Phil Neville even Tweeting a photo of Lukaku apparently wearing a Man Utd shirt.

Although, a sheepish Neville did then Tweet that he had ‘jumped the gun’!

However, reports now indicate that Chelsea aren’t giving up on their target, with the west Londoners matching United’s offer.

The plot thickens…
