Manchester United returned to the Champions League with a resounding 3-0 win against Basel at Old Trafford.

The hosts were dealt a blow in the first-half when captain for the night, Paul Pogba, was forced off with a hamstring injury.

However, Pogba’s replacement, Marouane Fellaini, would open the scoring before the break, rising high to head home from an Ashley Young centre.

That goal came after an unmarked Luca Zuffi had fired wide for the visitors in one of their rare chances.

In the second-half, the Red Devils continued to dominate, with Romelu Lukaku making it 2-0, courtesy of another headed goal from a Daley Blind cross.

The visitors rarely threatened the United goal and found themselves 3-0 down on 84 minutes, with sub Marcus Rashford firing home from a Fellaini cut-back.

That goal meant that the gifted Rashford has now scored on his debut in the Champions League, Premier League, Europa League, FA Cup and League Cup as well as his first game for England.

Late on, David De Gea was called into action after a strike from Mohamed Elyounoussi.

However, Jose Mourinho’s side would ultimately ease to a 3-0 win which puts them top of the Group A after the first Match Day.

Two Belgians and Rashford slotting the net – glorious. Mata and Mkhitaryan under rated. Valencia forever the workhorse even out of this match. Young is old but still relevant. Bounce Smalling and Carrick. Be real though, when did Basel ever do anything of real importance? Love MUFC but Jose is a twat.
