Anfield witnessed a second consecutive goalless draw between Liverpool and Manchester United after the hosts were frustrated by a dour and defensive display from the Red Devils.
Liverpool dominated possession throughout and came close on a number of occasions, with Emre Can firing over from close-range in the second-half.
However, the pivotal moment of the game came when David Dea produced a magnificent save with his foot to deny Joel Matip.

As for United, they rarely threatened Simon Mignolet’s goal, although a rather subdued Romelu Lukaku did test the ‘keeper at the end of the first-half.
The result left Jurgen Klopp frustrated, with the German coach bemoaning the negative approach of United. He told Sky Sports:
It’s not my right to be frustrated. I’m sure if we would play like this then we could not do it at Liverpool, but obviously in Manchester it’s okay. I don’t judge this, it’s all okay.
Jose Mourinho was quick to defend his team’s tactics, saying:
It depends what for you is an entertaining game. One thing is an entertaining game for fans, another thing is entertaining game for the people who read football in a different way. That’s different.
The result sees United go two points behind rivals City at the top of the table, while Liverpool, who have won just once in eight games, are now eighth.
