Steven Gerrard Nearing £40m Liverpool Exit, Arsenal Target £5m Shaun Wright-Phillips Move

By Chris Wright

Monday morning, praise the dawning. Here’s the round up…

Rumour No. 1: Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard is reportedly closer than ever to an Anfield exit following his side’s 7th place finish in this year’s Premier League table, and Manchester City’s Arab owners have given the go-ahead for a £40 million move for the visibly dejected midfielder.

Rumour No. 2: Arsenal are eyeing up a surprise £5 million move for Manchester City winger Shaun Wright-Phillips.

The 28-year-old has failed to land a regular place in Roberto Mancini‘s first team this season and is now looking for a move away from Eastlands to rescue his flagging career as, of the seven games he has started for City since Mancini took over, Wright-Phillips has found himself substituted in six of them.

The Best of the Rest: Atletico Bilbao have named their price for Chelsea and Real Madrid target Javi Martinez. The Basque club have announced that they will not accept a penny under £15 million for the midfielder – which is still a bargain if you ask me.

Liverpool expect to sign 18-year-old Rangers defender Danny Wilson for £2.5 million ‘within the next 48 hours’.

Everton are plotting a £3 million bid for 1860 Munich’s powerful striker Peniel Mlapa and a ‘complex bid’ (?) for Mlapa’s midfield teammate Aleksandar Ignjovski.

Birmingham are set to end Ben Foster‘s misery at Manchester United by lodging a £6 million bid for the ‘keeper.

Sunderland will attempt to pinch 19-year-old striker Nile Ranger from rivals Newcastle over the summer.

The Black Cats are also said to be planning a double raid on Man City for Stephen Ireland and Nedum Onuoha.

Bolton manager Owen Coyle is keen to sign striker Ivan Klasnic on a permanent deal following a successful loan spell at the club.

Wolves, Fulham and Birmingham are tracking 17-year-old Shrewsbury striker Tom Bradshaw.

Leeds are planning a £400,000 move for Sheffield United forward Jamie Ward.

even as a reds fan i can’t help but feel 40mil is plenty for an aging midfielder who is past his best and doesn’t really want to be there. hopefully rafa goes and they sign someone with some imagination.

shaun wright phillips would be an added advantage to Arsene Wenger’s side. He got the pace and good ball control. It would be a good chance for him to prove himself. He is a good player if in the starting lineup but this has not been the case at city because he does not start regularly.
Its just like Deco at chelsea

Steven Gerrard is liverpool. if he leaves then it would be a bigger blow than Alonso. There are legends that you cannot simply let go from our team. This will lower the team spirit and it will not be a surprise to see Liverpool go even lower than 7th place

  9. Ciaran says:

He and Torres don’t seem happy that the pools season was crap. They are forgettin one thing. They are partly to blame for that. their end of term report wouldn’t make good reading

    Chelsea Summer 2010

Out; Deco, Ballack, Joe Cole, Belletti, Ferreira, Anelka, Kalou

Igor Akinfeev should be brought in to replace Cech in the near future (they can fight for the top job over the next 12 months or so until Cech leaves).Akinfeev is better that Delac, though Delac is one for the future. Roman is close to CSKA and Akinfeev, Dzagoev and Doumbia are both being lined up for potential futures at Stamford Bridge (Tomas Necid, Vagner Love and Milos Krasic are also possible movers on the CSKA–Chelsea axis)

For Deco forget Hamsik unfortunately he seems Inter bound (but he’d be ideal if he changed his mind…). Pjanic really stood up during the CL but RM have been after him since he sent them out. Dzagoev is a Chelsea fan, and part of CSKA’s Chelsea factory. David Silva will probably end up staying in Spain, as good as he’d be he is not the most likely of the group. Kaka is also possible if part of a swap with RM for Ashley Cole. Kaka is also possible but unlikely.

Contractually Ballack is still up in the air, he’s been linked with Liverpool (not happening), Inter (maybe), Bayern (most likely). If he goes Schweinstiger is the obvious replacement. Matic will have a role to play but we need a true replacement for Michael as Matic won’t be truly ready for a few years yet.

Joe Cole is all but gone. Front runner Angel di Maria aside, the options boil down to Miroslav Stoch, Gai Assulin and Thaigo Alcantara both of whom’s availability depends on what happens at Barcelona transfer wise (regarding Cesc), the man from their cross town rival’s, Javi Martinez is another option. Hatem Ben Arfa is an unlikely signing, but would be great as would Diego Perotti and Joao Moutinho.

Neven Subotic and David Luiz have all been mentioned, with Luiz (alongside Bruma) is probably the best option to replace Belletti and Ferreira. Darijo Srna, Juan Manuel Vargas and Dani Alves are all possible movers but unlikely ones. Giorgio Chiellini would be a great signing, unlikely but with Carlo around you never know.

For Anelka, the clear front runner is Aguero. Pato seems destined to one day join Chelsea, Milan are desperate not to loose him for next season the likely outcome will be Pato signing this season and being loaned back to Milan, whilst Aguero/Suarez come in this year. Finally there is Luis Suarez who is in if Citeh outbids us in the race for Aguero. Villa and Torres are possible but unlikely.

As for Kalou there are several options, Moussa Dembele a highly talented and strong physical forward, who fits in well with our style of play. Though potentially outclassed by rising stars Romelu Lukaku and Lacina Traore any of those three would be good signings. There is also Neymar. Romelu Lukaku is a must! Seydou Doumbia’s move to CSKA moves him into Abramovich’s orbit.

For youth signings, Uruguay’s Urreta should be a 2012 priority signing. Christian Eriksen and Romelu Lukaku should also be key targets. Lukakuin particular must not be allowed to slip through our fingers.
