Bristol City manager Lee Johnson has revealed that tonight is the night he’s finally going to reveal the full extend of his feelings for Jose Mourinho.

The Robins are set to play Manchester United for the first time in almost 40 years when the two sides meet in the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup at Ashton Gate on Wednesday evening.

Ahead of the match, Johnson has admitted that he’s all a flutter at the prospect of facing one of his managerial idols, and has even broke the bank – well, his daughter’s bank – to impress his opposite number.

Asked by BBC Sport if he hoped to spend a bit of time with Mourinho after the match, the 36-year-old replied:

I hope so. I spent £450 on a bottle of wine! I have had to raid my little girl’s piggy bank. It is being flown in especially from Portugal.

The bottle in question is supposedly a Barca Velha Red 2004, Mourinho’s preferred plonk of choice.

We have done the due diligence and realised Jose likes this particular bottle that has to be poured by an expert.

Jose’s right up there. I’ve read all his books, I’ve watched any session that’s possible to watch, I’ve studied his interviews.

So hopefully he’ll come in and have a little chat with me and I’ll try to pick his brain for five or 10 minutes.

Obvious highschool crush aside, the fool’s on Johnson, here.

You can buy a perfectly quaffable bottle of wine for £4 down the Lidl.
