Chelsea ended a rather disappointing season on a high at Wembley on Saturday, with the Blues winning 1-0 in what could be Antonio Conte’s last game with the west Londoners.

Eden Hazard was the sharpest player on the pitch in the first-half and it was the Belgian who would open the scoring on 22 minutes.

Racing into the United box and through on goal, Hazard was felled by Phil Jones, who only picked up a yellow for his troubles.

However, from the resulting penalty, Hazard slotted home to give the Londoners the lead.

Jose Mourinho’s charges would struggle to click into gear in the first-half, with Alexis Sanchez often on the periphery.

After the break, United improved, as the Blues fell deeper and deeper, with Sanchez seeing his close-range effort ruled out for offside by the VAR system.

Thibaut Courtois was now a busy man, with the Belgian thwarting Marcus Rashford before an unmarked Paul Pogba headed wide when he really should have scored.

Chelsea thought they should have had a penalty when Ashley Young handled in the box, only for ref Michael Oliver to wave away the protests.

Mourinho sent on Romelu Lukaku and Anthony Martial to try to get his side back in the game.

However, the Blues would weather the storm and win the FA Cup after losing last year’s final to Arsenal.

If Conte is to leave Stamford bridge in the summer, it was a fitting end to a short but successful tenure for the Italian, who added the FA Cup to last season’s Premier League win.

As for Mourinho, he loses a major cup final with an English side for the first time in seven attempts.

Congratulations to Antonio Conte, Chelsea footballers, and fans.

I don’t see United getting any better next season, no matter who they bring. The problem is Mourinho (also some players but mainly Mourinho).

  3. Chris says:

Chelsea on their day are the best team in the league. Conte is a damn good manager too. perhaps you guys need a pole of the best ever Italian coaches. If you ever fall out of love with football, play for one. BTW Jose’s comments after the game were a little unsportsmanlike – wasn’t even ashamed of it either.
