Anthony Martial is keen to leave Manchester United after seeing his stock fall at Old Trafford year on year since his arrival.
After an impressive debut season, Martial has struggled to maintain any kind of consistency, all exacerbated by the obvious middling regard in which he is held by Jose Mourinho.
Now, after unsuccessfully attempting to negotiate a new contract for his client, Martial’s agent Philippe Lamboley has confirmed that the 22-year-old forward has arrived at an insurmountable impasse.
Talking to French radio station RMC, Lamboley laid it all out in the open:
After thinking about all the parameters and possibilities, Anthony wants to leave Manchester United.
When United, which is the most powerful club in the world, does not find an agreement in eight months of negotiations, it is that it does not really want to make him an important player.
Thing is, you’ve got to earn the right to be considered an ‘important player’ in any given team, and Martial’s hit-and-miss string of sub-Nani performances are just nowhere near close to cutting it.
There’s undoubted talent in there, but with every passing month you feel that potential simply isn’t going to be realised at United, under Mourinho.
Maybe the time to move on really is nigh.
