Manchester United have opened negotiations with Bayern Munich over a potential deal to sign Jerome Boateng.

Jose Mourinho is desperate to add at least one new centre-back to his squad before the transfer deadline passes on Thursday and Boateng is a very viable option.

This story is being reported by none other than Christian Falk, who is *the* source when it comes to all things Bayern…

Protracted injury issues saw Boateng (an ex-Man City player of course) slip down the pecking order at Bayern last season, with the defender failing to appear in over 50% of the Bavarian club’s league games for the past three seasons straight.

Bayern’s willingness to negotiate may also have something to do with the fact that Falk has also confirmed young France international Benjamin Pavard will be joining the Bundesliga champions from Stuttgart in the coming days…

Back to Boateng, valued at somewhere around the €50million mark, United must given serious consideration as to whether they want/need to add another expensive, injury-hampered defender to a stable that already contends with Chris Smalling, Phil Jones and Marcos Rojo and their multiple knacks and knocks.

Still, with Leicester City reportedly demanding a world record fee (£80-odd-million) for Harry Maguire, Boateng might well represent the next best available option.

For me, it’s a waste of money. We desperately need TWO world class center backs (Bailly is always injured and Smalling and Jones are worst than my granny) but Boateng is far from world class… I actually think he is not even better than Jones or Smalling, they are on the same level of shitness.

I would rather see United paying 80m for Maguire or Alderweireld than 25m for Boateng. We need to improve, not just buy players for the sake of it.

Anyway, our best business of the summer would be to keep Pogba. United can’t even think of selling him to Barca or Juve and I am afraid we will sell him with Mourinho in charge.

    Jose needs to go, man!

£80m for Maguire hahahaha. Have a word

Agree with you, he is not even worth 35m, but then Alisson is not even worth 20m…

Considering the market now and the center backs available, Maguire is a good fit for United, even for an enormous amount of money (like it matters to United if they spend 80m or 40m… It’s all the same for them).

Anyway, Boateng is the not man, even for free.

If Boateng is fit he is way better than any of those mentioned above. Of course he is older and had a lot
