Jose Mourinho had to be forcibly dragged away from the Stamford Bridge tunnel as the early kick-off between Chelsea and Manchester United ended with a brief outbreak of tumult.

Having led 2-1 thanks to a clinical Anthony Martial brace (the wafty French forward’s third goals in his last two outings), United were robbed of what would have been a strong victory in the 90+6th minute when substitute Ross Barkley scrambled home a frenetic equaliser.

Barkley’s goal sparked pandemonium inside the stadium, with Chelsea’s technical staff seeming to make a point of celebrating directly in front of Mourinho.

The United manager was incensed, specifically by a fist pump/verbal jab aimed at him in the dugout by coach Marco Ianni, who subsequently darted off down the tunnel as the Portuguese was prevented from following him by a wall of hi-vis…

Speaking to Sky Sports after the match, Mourinho refused to apologise for his actions and confirmed that the Blues staff had themselves apologised for their provocative behaviour:

Oh come on, I can tell you that the 97 minutes of the game was so good that you have to focus on that.

I am not annoyed with anything. What happened was with Sarri’s assistant (Ianni), Sarri was the first one to come to me and say he will resolve it.

The assistant has already come to me and apologised, I told him to forget it. I have made a lot of mistakes in my career.

He was very impolite but Sarri took care of the situation.

Fair enough. It’s difficult to assume the moral high ground when you’ve openly attempted to gouge an opponent’s eye out in the non-too-distant past.

Anyway, the result sees Chelsea fall behind Man City into second place, while United tumble down to ninth, below Bournemouth, Watford and Wolves.

Not happy to say It, but at the moment Chelsea are just scraping by. We will run out of stardust at some point. Considering the weapons we have, more the shame.

What happened to us? What happened to Jose? So much optimism when this grand experiment started. Now the whole world is tets up.

Chelsea being classless? Well I never. Next you’ll be telling me that grass is green and water is wet.

Straight Dave, don’t say that, if there is ONE saint in football it is John Terry…….

United deserved to win. I think we’ll beat Juve this week!
