Barcelona Steal World Cup Star From Under Manchester United’s Noses?

Spanish newspaper El Pais is reporting that Barcelona have agreed a four-year deal with Werder Bremen to sign playmaker Mesut Ozil. The fee? Around €10m.

With no Cesc Fabregas, Barca see Ozil as a decent second choice, even though they are different types of player.

This won’t do anything for the good humour of Man Utd gaffer Alex Ferguson, who – despite what he says – has been tracking the German World Cup star for several weeks. When asked if United were interested in signing Ozil, Fergie replied: “I don’t know.”

In Fergiespeak, that’s as good as a yes.

I think United should be prepared to go as high as £20m for Ozil, even though it seems Werder are happy to accept almost half that, as the player is nearing the end of his contract. Chances are, his value is only going one way after this season: up.

The German would make a fine replacement for the veteran Paul Scholes, no?

There you go again SAF, you dillydallied on Ronaldinho and paid dearly, am told you even did the same in Essien’s case, now, Mesut is bound to sign for another club. How long will it take you to realize that we need a play-maker boss??? We keep losing fairly priced stars coz we like to procrastinate alot, come on big man!

He’s not interested in a Man U move, simple as that. He’s a long time Barcelona fan since childhood.

That’s a load of cobblers. First, the Spanish press is never a reliable source of information, only propaganda. Second, Werder have supposedly turned down bids around the £12million mark, so why would they suddenly agree to sell him for about £3 million less? Rubbish.

    Forgetting about chelsea?

@ Sam – I really don’t think Chelsea want Ozil. They don’t really need him either.

Ozil is a world class player and is way better than Fabregas at 21. Fabregas has yet to prove his worth at the highest level. Of course, anyone can win WC by association.

Barca too is arrogant if they think they can get Ozil 8 million while paying Divid Villa 38 million.

May be it is time that Ozil fires his Serbean agent. He should stay put at Werder sign new agreement with 60 million buy out cluase.

Shit, he better grab his money and not be fool. It is all about the damn money. When you get your money then start entertaining people.

Well i hate to hear that we cant Manutd is in good form, if you can remember we didnt player good football with chelsea so there is a need of some new blood in the team. jack up fergie.

What a load of tosh! It would be nice to have a player like Ozil but Utd do not need him. Some of you guys sound like it is the end of the world not signing him, though I do agree with the comment that the Spanish press are useless. I’m sure if it was the player’s choice, he would pick wherever he is going to get regular first team football and a bit of Champions league footy. He has more of a chance of that at Utd or Werder. Besides an aging ginger ninja like Scholesy is still ten times better than a Turkish frog!
