Wayne Rooney Heading For Man Utd Exit?

To the outsider, it might appear that Wayne Rooney is very much heading the same way as Paul Ince, Jaap Stam, David Beckham and Roy Keane (to name just four high-profile Man Utd stars who fell out with Sir Alex Ferguson).

Rooney has still not signed a new deal at Old Trafford, and he and Fergie are singing from different hymn sheets this season.

When asked whether his ankle felt sore after the England vs Montenegro match, Rooney answered curtly: “I’ve had no problems with my ankle all season. I have been 100 per cent fit.”

And when pressed on why Fergie told the media that he was injured, Rooney shrugged and said: “I don’t know.”

It is well known that Fergie hates his players making the headlines for non-football reasons (which explains partly why the United boss loves Paul Scholes so much), and the recent prostititute scandal will have done Rooney no favours at Old Trafford.

Using basic tabloid maths, all this adds up to a Rooney exit sooner rather than later. But where to? I’d bet on Wazza reuniting with Ronaldo at Real Madrid. We’ll see. On current form, it’s not like Rooney is an indispensable player.

  1. What’s interesting about this is the change in Rooney. From model professional with a ‘scally’ side to an emotionally erratic, out of form problem child.

Why Fergie has to lie to keep him out of the limelight, rather than just dropping him and explaining it to him, I don’t know – can only suspect he feels the press don’t need to know and an injury is as good an excuse as any. Typical Fergie.

What’s not typical is him not speaking to Rooney about it first, as appears to be the case! Mental.

Remember when he was at Everton and raw – everyone was worried he’d do a George Best or Gazza and go off the rails. Then Fergie seemed to tame him. Now it appears he is in danger of going off the rails.

  3. I am Jerry M. Cephas, one of the die hard Manchester United fans from the Republic of Liberia. I witnessed nearly all Man-U games from start to finish. On the issue of Rooney, I want him to stay with Manchester United because he’s one of my favorite players. Sir Alex Ferguson has not been treating Rooney with respect he deserves for all the pride he has brought to Man-U. If I had the will power to make determination, I will prefer Rooney staying while Sir Alex Ferguson go.
Secondly, one of the problems I see with Man-U right now is the defence. We need two new Defenders to help Evra and Verdic inorder for Man-U to regain her wining spirit.

  4. He’s not drinking though, is he Ollie. Or is he?

Certainly very close to going off the rails in some fashion though. To Fergie, however, I think he’s more of a Cantona than a Stam. If he can fix him, he will, he won’t just sell him off straight away.

Not sure what the deadline on that is though!

I love United. But even I could see this coming. They put the world on his shoulders, he carried them for awhile, then the weight started bogging him down. History repeats itself and this is no outlier. Expect Roo to be gone in 2 years tops. Real or Barca will give him another 80 million pounds and it’s done. Not saying I want it, but let’s be realistic.

Sir Alex Ferguson should give Rooney the doubt by allowing to play oftenly as requested. If I had the will power to make determination, I will prefer Rooney playing with Nani on the top for the full 90-minuteson the feild.

Thank you very much for your insightful commentary, Jerry M. Cephas from the Republic of Liberia. On the issue of Rooney, I couldn’t be bothered about whether he stays with Manchester United or leaves, as that is almost entirely his decision regarding whether or not he wishes to get his metaphorical “shit” together. Manchester United is a club that has been brought much success in recent times by said Sir Alexander Ferguson, mind you, even before said Wayne Rooney was introduced to the squadron and/or played a significant role. Therefore I would trust his decision on both the issue of Rooney, and the issue of not playing Nani as a striker, as that is a terrible idea. That being said, yes, the defense could be strengthened, possibly be adding someone like Nemanja Vidic to partner Verdic.

I await your reply with a furrowed brow of anticipation.

  9. […] there wasn’t actually anything said about that. However, that hasn’t stopped ESPN, Who Ate All The Pies?, The Metro, The First Post and the like all claiming that Rooney has ‘opened the exit […]

Pik payments due with lack of success = selling of assets simple maths! I hopes its rubbish though, the chap is unplayable when he is in form!!!

hahahhahahahahahahahhahaha who is this guy from liberia trying to say he is a true die hard united fan what an utter gimp.
    1) you’ve probs never been to 1 match
    2) you say your a die hard fan on the basis you watch ‘almost’ every game from start to finish…. hmmm somehow i think die hard fan ike myself would hav a season ticket, go to away matches and when i can’t watch evry single one from start to finish
    3) rooney has been here 6 years fergie has been here 25 + years and you’d prefer some scouser to stay and let the best thing has ever happened to the club leave. somehow i don’t think your a die hard fan just a wannabe fan.
    4) my current opinion on this story is rooney will saty for life as he has stated mmany times in the past and has already told fergie he will sign a 6 yr deal worth 140k a week after christmas
