The Daily Vote – will Fergie’s sentimentality cost Man Utd the league?

p1_ferguson_1110.jpgArsene Wenger is not a sentimental manager. He has never been afraid to drop players when he feels they have served their purpose – even great players like Patrick Vieira, Dennis Bergkamp, Thierry Henry and Robert Pires. Wenger always looks forward, for the good of the team, not the individual. That’s what makes him the greatest manager in Premier League history, and I say that as a Spurs fan.
For all his strengths, Sir Alex Ferguson is sometimes too emotional and too proud to do the right thing for the good of the team. Would Wenger have kept on Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs for so long? I doubt it very much. Scholes’ return to central midfield, at the expense of Owen Hargreaves, has upset the balance of his team, whilst Giggs has not played consistently well for a long time. Anyhoo, have your say below, or leave a comment…

You have absolutely no idea what you are talking about!! Arsene, greatest manager?? think i just choked on my tounge!! yes thats right he replaces players when he thinks they are too old, however what have his young boys won him? JACK!! Alex keeps faith in truly talented players who can still dictate a football match!! Giggs and Scholes have more talent in their little toe than most of the arsenal nursery put together!! So how about we leave the judgment as you call it to Ferguson, as he actually knows what he’s doing!!

you are ofcorse taking the mick..
firstly, fergie hasnt an ounce of sentimentality in his body.. his greatest captain roy keane was shipped out of the club as soon as he became a hindrance to team spirit, beckham, van nistelrooy and even the best player in the world ronaldo were cashed in when fergie thought a gd deal was available.. those are 4 of the best players to have played in the fergie era..
secondly, the reason giggs and scholes have lasted is because unlike the above mentioned players, they have remained loyal to the club and have never engendered a negative team spirit by claiming they were ‘a slave’ (CR7) or creating a media circus (becks) or criticizing any1 and every1 in the squad (keane). infact, players like giggs and scholes create a confidence amongst the younger players in the squad that arsenal lack at times.. how many title winners are there in the arsenal squad? giggs has won 11! imagine being a young star like wellbeck or walcott.. who would u rather have leading u into a premier league title race.. giggs or arshavin. scholes or fabregas. im nt denying that arsenal dnt have players of the same quality.. but the knowhow of winning ugly in a tight premier league campaign cannot be underestimated.
and besides all of that.. giggs is one of the most in-form players in the league right now. even at 35 he is near the top of the assists column and chances created column (fabregas might well have overtaken him with his performance against blackburn. im nt sure. giggs was def top before the game). and scholes can still run a game against most premier league teams.. they are NOT being picked based on sentimentality.

Whoever wrote this article has been made to look a fool by Fergie. Not for the first time, and it won’t be the last. Proof? Giggs is in the form of his life and is arguably our best performer so far this season. Oh, and he won the PFA player of the year last season. Too sentimental, eh? When will you journo’s learn to stop questioning Fergie? It just leaves you with egg on your face.
