Salt and indeed pepper

The agent of Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola has rubbished rumours that his client is being courted by most of European football’s biggest fish, claiming that no contact has been made with any club – be it Inter Milan, Chelsea or Manchester United.

Jose Maria Orobitg (I’ve checked, it’s not a typo) is insistent that Guardiola is more than happy at Barca and will still be on the sidelines at the Camp Nou next season – provided his upcoming contract renewal talks pass without a hitch.

Orobitg told calciomercato.it:

“At this moment there is nothing with another club. I have not had any direct contact with Inter, only questions by other agents, but we are not currently contemplating a departure.

“Guardiola’s contract is expiring in June, it is too early to begin negotiations for the renewal, but Pep has always preferred to renew from year to year.

“Then in football you never know. Chelsea and Manchester United? No, I have not had any contact with them.

“I think that next season Pep will still be on Barcelona’s bench. He’s very well here, is very Catalan and is a special coach”.

Yep, Pep’s going nowhere fast mis amigos, and why would he?

mis amigos -> els meus amics

the last time pep left barcelona was at the end of his football career when he had lost some pace at barca and sought to play out his final few seasons abroad. it was very emotional to leave even then, when he was at the end of his career and wasnt playing much. all the rumors and money in the world mean nothing for a coach at the top of his game leading his home team to the top of the world. Pep will eventually leave, yes, but he won’t leave unless he feels there is nothing left he can do to help.

Hey Ollie (or Chris), totally unrelated to this story I’m afraid, but what happened to the little buttons at the top of an article that could take you to the next article or back to the previous one? They were useful.

He’s not going anywhere because he knows his success is down to the players, not the coach – hence why they pretty much single-handedly won the the World Cup playing exactly the same way under a different dude. At any other club he’d be found out like Benitez has been at Inter, and let’s not forget the biggest bit of business PG has done in the transfer market is lose tens of millions and Samuel Eto’o buying Zlatan Ibrahimovic!!
For further evidence just look at Frank Rijkaard – sure he won the Champions League, but then he’s also the only guy ever to have “managed” Rotterdam all the way to relegation, and he just got canned by Galataseray. Bah, humbug!!

@George: Not sure, I think they may have got lost when Pies underwent a bit of ‘tweaking’ a while back.

Should he leave Barcelona and La Liga for the Premiership? Is the Premier League actually better than La Liga?

if hes clever he stays as long as he can. i think what makes the combination of guardiola and the barca squad tick is the fact that most of the group are coming from barcas youth system. they breathe barca and i really dont want to say that hes not a great manager but i wouldnt be surprised if a spell at another club would be an ill one.
