Et tu, Fergie? Italian capital living up to “stab city” reputation
jul_0605_01009.jpgA Man Utd fan has been stabbed in Rome ahead of tonight’s Champions League final. Greg Wheldon, 34, suffered a knife wound to his left leg after being ambushed as he walked to his hotel near the Vatican early this morning.
According to reports, “Hotel staff rushed out and pulled him and his friends to safety while his attackers ran off.” Wheldon was treated at the nearby Santo Spirito hospital and released. His injuries were not serious.
Time for Uefa to think about banning Rome as a venue for finals, methinks.

The Spoiler reports that despite the drinking ban, fans in Rome’s city centre are already quaffing booze like it’s going out of fashion:

“The Mayor of Rome was hoping to avoid such incidents by imposing a blanket ban on alcohol in the city from Tuesday until Thursday…
“The Spoiler’s source in Rome confirms that people are freely drinking outside, despite official warnings. The source added that a sign at her hotel reads: ‘No Alcoholics served today’.”

There may be trouble ahead…
