The teaser images made it just about clear enough that Man Utd’s new home kit features a big black chevron on the chest. And now the strip has officially been launched, we can see clearly that this is the case.
First thoughts: why?! There’s no possible reason to place a black chevron so prominently on the chest. This kit is not a Man Utd kit, it’s a Nike kit. And that is why it fails.
That’s my take anyway - what do you think? Leave comment or rate the kit after the jump, where you’ll also be treated to more photos of the kit…

Take away the chevron and it would look just dandy. But with that ugly black V, it’s a big old FAIL.

  2. frnk says:

apparently the v is connected to the 100 year anniversary of us playing at OT. the first season we played there we had a similar v on the shirt. atleast thats what i heard

Great kit from the waist down!!!

  4. G says:

The 100yr anniversary thing is right. We played in a white kit with a red V. Or was it red kit with a white V?

  5. Timbo1234 says:

Come on Ollie, all the other football blogs seem to mention the reason for the chevron.

  6. Ollie says:

Timbo, I think that’s just Nike’s excuse to brand the kit in line with their V range of sportswear. So I don’t think it’s a valid reason, personally. Cheers.

  8. Joe says:

Agree completely ollie. Also pretty shameless how they sneak in Park as one of the models just to hawk more of this tat in Asia.

  9. GD says:

Someone look at the kits that Mexico wore in the 2006 World Cup. Its the same shirt, different colors. Boring.

  10. Rob says:

Looks like Rooney’s hairline is going the same direction as the chevron

  11. K says:

Really don’t like it. Not gonna spend my money on this one, I don’t think.
The goal keeper away shirt is pretty hideous too.

  12. Matilda says:

I’ve hear the chevron is to honour the first FA Cup winning team, which happened in 1909. They apparently had a chevron on their chest too. They also gave the goat, who was then United’s mascot, alcohol poisoning at the post-FA-Cup-winning-party. It was only after that they switch to the Red Devil. Just a little aside

I thought they were changing shirt sponsors? Or is that only for 2010/11?
