Who’d have thunk it?! Michael Owen scored on his Man Utd debut, coming off the bench to score the winner against a Malaysian XI (final score 3-2 to United). It was the sort of finish that Owen is renowned for, as the video below shows…

Shocking mistake by Ben Foster for the home side’s second goal, after Wazza Rooney and Nani has put United ahead. Then up pops Owen to coolly slot home a loose ball, with six minutes of normal time remaining.
“It’s just nice to play with players who are on your wavelength, spotting your runs – they are just class players,” Owen said in a post-match interview. Yes, Michael, we see what you mean. To go from Newcastle to Man Yoo must be so much more enjoyable than the other way around - Nicky Butt and Alan Smith could tell you that.
“It’s nice to play a game in the red shirt,” Owen continued (The red shirt? A dig at Liverpool there? Probably not). “Just to get off the mark for the season is nice and it’s probably doubly good for me as it’s my first game as well.”
Ferguson was pleased - if not vindicated, yet – by Owen’s display: “He’s different from our other players, he’s always searching for space, he’s always in and around the box. He reacted well for his goal.”
