Stoke City 1-1 Manchester United – Premier League – September 24

Manchester United saw their perfect start to the new Premier League campaign come to an end after a very difficult encounter with Stoke at the Britannia Stadium.

With Wayne Rooney sidelined with a hamstring injury, Antonio Valencia filling in at right-back for Jonny Evans, who limped out of the pre-match warm-up, and Michael Owen coming on for the injured Javier Hernandez after just 11 minutes, it just wasn’t going to be United’s day.

In-form Portuguese wing wizard Nani netted yet another goal to give the visitors the lead but a second-half header from beanpole striker Peter Crouch levelled the scores in a game which the Potters could well have won.

Veteran loverman Ryan Giggs could have snatched all three points for United at the death, however, only for the Welsh Lothario to fluff his lines with a wayward left-foot shot.

Didn’t realise that Crouch was an Oswald Mosley fan.

this has got to be the most ridiculously one sided game refeereing wise. every decision that could have gone either way, went to stoke shitty’s favour. not least that blatant pummeling of chicharito in the box….the referee is a bitch

  3. cajark says:

Agreed. Peter Walton should retire with immediate effect, along with his sidekicks

@VZXC —– you can blame the referee as much as you want…I watched the game myself, Berba and Owen are just not that fast for counter attacking football. Stoke is no Leeds! United without Rooney is completely a different football team. Props to the Potters, they never give up.

@Sultan well done on watching the game, you are now the font of football wisdom… Your own argument is about as stupid as it gets, basically – ‘United’s strikers weren’t fast enough’… Perhaps they would have been faster counter attacking if Chicharito wasn’t taken out of the game due to a blatant foul. Perhaps the Penalty and red card would have been fair then wouldn’t it? Only an idiot doesn’t realize you can’t beat the ref on the day.
