Just as it was foretold in Tuesday’s prophecy, Southampton have appointed Ralph Hasenhuttl as their new head coach.

The Austrian has signed a two-and-a-half-year deal with the first task being to deliver the Saints from the relegation his predecessor Mark Hughes had them hurtling towards.

Desbribed by the club as having an “infectious enthusiasm for football”, Hasenhuttl will be supported by assistant coach Kelvin Davis, goalkeeping coach Dave Watson and sport science nerd Alek Gross, all of whom survived the great Hughes cull of 03/12/2018.

Southampton are currently wallowing down in 18th place and just one point off the bottom of the league, though equally only one point from ‘safety’ in the opposite direction.

While Hasenhuttl might not be instantly familiar with a majority of fans, he’ll really have to stink the joint up like a nappy full of old slurry to be any worse than the perma-dire Hughes, who must surely have just left his last ever Premier League job.
