England mediocre, Andorra disgraceful

106602.jpgThere’s been more than enough words penned on England’s failure to break down 5-5-0 defences, but I think Andorra deserve some form of punishment for their shameful performance last night. I usually root for the plucky minnows, but Andorra’s game plan seemed to consist of physical intimidation (the elbow being a favoured weapon), time-wasting and rolling around several times after the slightest contact. Wayne Rooney was targeted from the first minute – fair enough, you might say, but I think it’s an underhand tactic. Andorra mostly got away with it too, thanks to a dreadfully one-eyed performance by the referee.
(That doesn’t mean I condone Steven Gerrard’s over-the-top foul & blatant dive though.)

What do you expect against a side one place above India and one place below The Solomon Islands? Passing and moving? Allowing us space? Moaning about their game plan is ridiculous.
I personally found the fact that we rose to the bait much more disgraceful.

Being defensive and negative is one thing – but Andorra took it way too far. How can rolling around on the floor (sometimes simultaneously) be considered a game plan?

I don’t think guys like Rooney and Cole were better than that.
Played at about the same level too..
