What a brilliant finish to a brilliant season in Spain. At half-time on the last Sunday of the season, Barca were pissing it away at Gimnastic, whilst Real Madrid were losing 1-0 at home to Real Mallorca, and playing very badly too. However, an inspired substitution by Madrid coach Fabio Capello in the second half changed the course of the title. He took off David Beckham, who was clearly struggling with injury, and replaced him with Jose Antonio Reyes. The on-loan Arsenal star scored two goals to shatter Barcelona’s championship dreams and hand the title to Madrid.
I’m chuffed for David Beckham, who deserved to get something out of his time in Spain. He’s been a model professional for Madrid and he can now start his American adventure without the nagging doubts of what might have been. Anyhoo, here’s the highlights from Real’s telling 3-1 win against Mallorca. Favourite moment for me? When Madrid took the lead and Iker Casillas started crying because he knew his side would go on to win the title…

Least favourite moment? Tom Cruise’s waistcoat.

I watched this on GolTV which had some Irish announcer on it who was having a coronary on every nice pass or buildup, much less the goals that won the title. The game itself was really nice to watch but the announcing made it legendary.
