We all know what the tabloids think, there are conflicting reports about what the players think, but what do you think? Should Steve McClaren be sacked if England fail to qualify for Euro 2008? Has he under-achieved in the job or are the players to blame? Has he had enough chances to stop the rot or does he need more time to stamp his authority on the England set-up?

dunno why i’m bothering to repeat whats been said 1000 times, but a half decent manager should motivate the players / only pick the sort that’ll fight for it. Mclaren’s a fucking joker. It’s his job to make the dont give a shit players put the effort in. Or he s I don’t think you can blame the players.

Not all the blame can go to Maclaren , he picked a squad which should have really done the job in Russia ,i think that his gameplay tactics were poor but the players themselves have to perform better. However he has to go whether he would improve or not simply because he would have too much negativity attached to him for him to ever be able to successfully continue in any major competitions ,

He should never have been given the job in the first place.
The failure doesn’t stop with McLaren, he is unfairly a scapegoat, the bigger problem are the idiots who appointed him.
Even so we are not out yet, we could scrape through by the skin of our teeth in the next 5 days and end up winning the tournament next year! Would make most of these post’s look a bit stupid then!

It’s a fucking joke that we’re in the position we are. It isn’t all McClarens fault. The FA are a bunch of mugs for appointing him manager in the first place – McClaren has and always will be a better coach, rather than manager. He can’t motivate the players, and its clear they need a massive kick up the ass. Most of the fault lays with the players as they’re the ones who are meant to do the business on the pitch. The majority are passionless and just care about the money – the FA need to stop paying wages for international football; representing your country is a privelege and an honour, not a job. The sooner these players realise that, the sooner we’ll be heading where we should already be. Our U21s would probably do a better job, simply because they have the passion and determination to do their country proud – bar David Bentley. The FA need to sort it out from grass roots level – it all begins in the youth systems with the youngsters being given the chance. McClaren isn’t totally to blame, but at the same time he’s one of the worst choices the FA could have made for the England job.

Bollocks. What is the point of international football nowadays anyway? We already have what is effectively international football at club level – qua the mix of foreign and domestic players in the premier league and champions league (+uefa cup).
I think international football is a relic from the bygone era of socialism and the nation-state. It’s a bloody nuisance that players from well-off countries like England can do without.
I mean look at these daft sods on the BBC every year banging on about how the game should be ‘restructured from the grass-roots up’ – as if it was some sort of Marxist revolution they were planning or something – bloody idiots the lot of them.

  8. ze says:

international competitions are the greatest and most valuable trophies to be won in football, and calling it worthless is just shittalk when you cant admit you`re national team is actually weak , your playing style is different from everyone else and that makes your players soooo overrated on the international level
