Barcelona won 1-2 in Zaragoza while Real Madrid lost by the same margin against Real Betis to narrow the gap at the top. Ronaldinho’s 83rd minute penalty secured victory for Barca after Thierry Henry had earlier opened the scoring. Royston Drenthe put Real Madrid 1-0 up after six minutes against Real Betis, but a quickfire first-half double from Edu and Mark Gonzalez meant defeat for the league leaders.
The results mean Real Madrid are still on 56 points, while Barcelona are five points behind on 51. At the other end of the table, dead-and-buried Levante moved to within ten points of second-bottom Murcia with victory over Osasuna.
