Newcastle United 1-2 Arsenal – Premier League – 21st March 2015
Arsenal survived a second-half onslaught from Newcastle to secure yet another win that sees the Gunners stay just a point behind second-placed Manchester City.
The visitors, without the ill Mesut Ozil, were the better side in the first-period and were rewarded for their incisive play with two goals from Olivier Giroud. However, after the break, the Magpies were transformed as Arsenal, heavy-legged after their midweek trip to Monaco, started to flag. Moussa Sissoko got one back for the hosts early on in that second period but ultimately, the Gunners hung on for a vital victory.
John Carver’s side remain in comfortable mid-table while Arsene Wenger’s charges stay well in the hunt for a top-four finish.
