Good old Kevin Keegan has got Newcastle playing exciting football once again and the fans who feared they were set for a relegation scrap are enjoying the no frills football of mid-table obscurity. But judging by some of the rumours knocking around, Keegan is keen to kick-on and move the Magpies further up the table.
Today’s papers list Thierry Henry as a £15 million target – although everyone knows Newcastle only buy out-of-form has-beens for more than they left the country for – and Luka Modric is also being linked with a move to St James’ Park. The former seems a little far-fetched (Henry himself has said that he would only move back for Arsenal), but there appears to be more weight to the Modric rumour. The long-term Chelsea target is being urged to join the Magpies by Croatian national team boss Slaven Bilic. Has Keegan got the potential to attract a higher calibre of player to a club with no prospect of European football next year? Are these just pipe dreams or will the Magpies be back in the Premier League’s elite next season? The vote is after the jump…
