Good old Kevin Keegan has got Newcastle playing exciting football once again and the fans who feared they were set for a relegation scrap are enjoying the no frills football of mid-table obscurity. But judging by some of the rumours knocking around, Keegan is keen to kick-on and move the Magpies further up the table.
Today’s papers list Thierry Henry as a £15 million target – although everyone knows Newcastle only buy out-of-form has-beens for more than they left the country for – and Luka Modric is also being linked with a move to St James’ Park. The former seems a little far-fetched (Henry himself has said that he would only move back for Arsenal), but there appears to be more weight to the Modric rumour. The long-term Chelsea target is being urged to join the Magpies by Croatian national team boss Slaven Bilic. Has Keegan got the potential to attract a higher calibre of player to a club with no prospect of European football next year?
