Newcastle United signed Damien Duff from Chelsea this weekend, on a five-year contract.

Um, why? I like Duff a lot but the last thing NUFC needs is another tricky winger –  the club’s immediate priority should be to buy a world-class central defender and a world-class striker. To be fair to Glenn Roeder, I’m sure he’s painfully aware of that too.

Seems like the signing of Duff is just another example of the Magpies buying a showman to placate/excite their fans. (Tino Asprilla, anyone?) If you ask me, Newcastle got the wrong man – they should have raided Chelsea for William Gallas or Hernan Crespo, preferably both.

Newcastle have no fire power up front, what do they do?
    Buy a striker! DOH!
In al fairness Duff is a fine player, though I was very surprised he went to the ‘toon, guarenteed first team action week in week out I s’pose, plus a fat pay cheque!
