Tragic news from the Romanian league is reaching Pies this morning that Patrick Ekeng, of Dinamo Bucharest, passed away last night after collapsing on the pitch.

He was only 26 years old.

Ekeng came on for Dinamo as a 63rd-minute substitute against Viitorul on Friday night. He then fell down clutching his head in the 70th minute.

The game was suspended while Ekeng was rushed to Floreasca Emergency Hospital where, sadly, he died after two hours fighting for his life in A&E. According to local reports, the Cameroon international suffered a heart attack.

The Cameroon Football Federation had this to say:

Cameroon and the great family of Cameroonian football are in mourning. Pending an official report on this tragic incident, we have lost a son and a brother.

The president and the executive committee of Fecafoot present their sincere condolences to his family and relatives.

RIP Ekeng Ekeng, RIP indomitable lion.

Upon receiving the awful news from the hospital, Ekeng’s Dinamo teammates paid tribute to their fallen comrade in fitting fashion…
