We’re sad to report that tragedy befell last night’s pre-season friendly between non-league sides Tonbridge Angels and Whyteleafe FC.

Junior Dian, a 23-year-old player on trial with Tonbridge, collapsed 20 minutes into the second half of the game and, despite the “heroic efforts” of the physios and paramedics on hand, later passed away in hospital in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

Steve Churcher, chairman of Tonbridge Angels, told the club website:

“This is devastating news and our only crumb of comfort is that Junior lost his life doing something he obviously enjoyed so much.  All our thoughts and sympathies are with his family.

“Also I would like to thank everyone at Whyteleafe FC for their support and professionalism during this very distressing incident yesterday evening.”

How terrible. Pies’ heart goes out to all those involved.

Junior Dian RIP.
