The PFA have this morning yodeled their ‘Player of the Year’ and ‘Young Player of the Year’ award nominations for the season of our lord 2012/13 from atop their ivory tower and the shortlists are as follows:
Player of the Year…
Gareth Bale
Michael Carrick
Eden Hazard
Juan Mata
Luis Suarez
Robin van Persie
Young Player of the Year…
Gareth Bale
Christian Benteke
Eden Hazard
Romelu Lukaku
Danny Welbeck
Jack Wilshere
The ‘Player of the Year’ award isn’t quite as cut-and-dry, but we may as well congratulate Mr Bale on his ‘Young Player’ win right here and now.
While Lukaku and Benteke hit the ground running at new clubs, Bale has eclipsed them both throughout the entire season. Wilshere, Welbeck and Hazard have been far too patchy for one reason or another. Surely a nod for Michu would have been more deserving?
As for the senior award, we’re fairly sure RVP’s going to nab it.
As Jamie Redknapp so succinctly put it a couple of months ago, there’s only one thing that’s going to stop Luis Suarez being voted the PFA Player of the Year and that’s his fellow professionals, who just so happen to be the ones voting for it.
Who’s you’re money going on Pies fans?
