Aggrieved at the way the club is being run, AC Milan supporters boycotted Saturday evening’s game against Cagliari in their droves, leaving the San Siro looking like the Mary Celeste as the Rossoneri ground out a 3-1 victory to move up to seventh in the Serie A table.

An official attendance was (purposefully) not given out, but it’s safe to say that the stadium was way under it’s 80,000+ capacity – and not for the first time.

Before the game, Milan’s Curva Sud ultras group called for fans to avoid the match and to also stop buying official merchandise until the club’s top brass offer more transparency as per their future plans.

As a vivid display of their discontent, Curva Sud also draped the following banner in the empty terraces…

Here’s the wide shot, showing just how sparsely attended the game actually was…

The Curva Sud ultras also issued a statement on Curvasudmilano.it before kick-off, which read thus:

“How many times have we made sacrifices for Milan?”

“How many times have we saved up to buy a new shirt, to be able to go to the stadium, to renew our season tickets?

“There’s one thing that’s been lacking, something that we want as Milan fans and lovers of these colours: Clarity!

“We invite those who have already bought tickets and made travel arrangements (for the Cagliari game) to stay, if possible, outside the stadium.

“If this is impossible we understand the inconvenience, as we were always the first to travel to see our great love, we ask to at least not show banners and flags and refrain from cheering.

“Today, more than ever, the Rossoneri must show unity of purpose and make sure the proponents of this situation fulfil their responsibilities.”

Mission accomplished, it would seem.

What a sorry state of affairs.
