Thanks Moses, Jesus and Chewbacca the Premier League is back though, we can’t lie, the opening day was a little bit on the pap side – here’s our pick of the photos…

Newcastle 0-0 Arsenal: Joey Barton hoists Gervinho to his feet after the Ivorian had collapsed in the Newcastle penalty area looking for a spot-kick

…a grapple breaks out which eventually sees Gervinho sent off for slapping Barton upside his hipster quiff

High feet ref? Shola Ameobi gives Alex Song (who has earlier stamped on a prone Joey Barton’s calf) a closer look at his studs

Liverpool 1-1 Sunderland: Luis Suarez is sent sprawling after a tangle of legs with Sunderland’s Kieran Richardson, the Uruguayan then fluffed the resultant penalty before putting Liverpool ahead with a near-post header

Seb Larsson cracks home a magnificent scissor-kick to equalise for Sunderland against Liverpool at Anfield

Fulham 0-0 Villa: Not an awful lot of stellar action from Fulham vs Aston Villa, so here’s two lovely ladies instead

QPR 0-4 Bolton: Two minutes into his QPR debut, crock Monsieur Kieron Dyer is stretchered from the pitch with his knee and ankle in a splint – we hate to say we told you so, but…

Gary Cahill is mobbed after opening the scoring against QPR with a curling blockbuster from the edge of the area

Wigan 1-1 Norwich: Ben Watson puts Wigan one up against Norwich from the spot. Wes Hoolahan later pulled one back for the Canaries following Ali Al Habsi’s fumble

Blackburn 1-2 Wolves: Wolves’ Stephen Ward is mobbed by his teammates after pinging home a lovely low volley from the edge of the area to nab his side an opening day victory over Blackburn at Ewood

  5. Anabelle says:

@Travis – this shows how racist the English referees are. They always stand for the British player. This double standard is endemic.

Like it or not it’s true, and don’t even bother try try telling me otherwise!!!

  6. Solihull United says:

  9. Calski says:

@Anabelle – that is the most idiotic comment ever. The fact JB wasn’t sent off, was not because the Linesman and Referee are Racists, it was because neither the linesman or the referee saw the JB pulling up Gervinho but the linesman did see Gervinho slap Barton. No matter how hard you hit someone or slap someone in the face the states you should be given a red card.

I absolutely unashamedly love Ginger birds…thank you Chris for posting a photo of one.

  11. okenta says:

Wenger is a professor. When he goes into his laboratory the critics will be proved wrong. He has always done it when only the optimists believed in him.

  12. blackcee says:

song was punished even if the match officials did not see the incident during the match. the same was not done this p….g called barton. tough luck Gervius, some people are more equal than others. The racist FA condones the behaviour of barton.
