Cristiano Ronaldo has freed up a bit of space on his mantelpiece (and raised a decent wedge of money for charity) by donating one of his four Ballon d’Or awards to the Make-a-Wish foundation.

Ronaldo’s trinket was entered into a charity auction earlier in the week where it eventually sold for €600,000.

According to MARCA, the trophy – the replica given to winners to keep by FIFA – was purchased by Idan Ofer, shipping magnate and Israel’s richest person, with all the proceeds going directly to Make-a-Wish.

Pep Guardiola and Jose Mourinho also contributed to the auction, with one bidder parting with €30,000 to win a meet-and-greet with the two coaches at an upcoming boxing match in Manchester.

Sadly, we have it on good authority that the aforementioned bout is not between the two football managers mentioned above.
