Sergio Ramos was forced to sit out of Real Madrid’s midweek Champions League engagement with APOEL after getting his nose broken in the Madrid derby that preceded it on the Saturday before.

The 31-year-old defender was left with blood cascading out of his beak after being caught by a flailing boot from Atletico full-back Lucas Hernandez.

However, Ramos is ready to brave the fray once again going into this weekend’s La Liga fixture against Malaga after acquiring himself a protective carbon fibre face mask for the occasion.

The rough, tough centre-back has also had the mask inscribed with a powerful motivational message, cribbed directly from one of his mum’s fridge magnets…

As if they weren’t already ludicrously over-engineered, something tells us this is set to be the mere tip of the custom face mask iceberg – professional footballers being mindless fad-slaves as they are.

Gaaaaaah.
