Taxing times: Rangers’ owner Craig Whyte

75 points is a fairly hefty points deduction, but according the the Daily Record, that’s the kind of points haul that Rangers could be docked if they don’t manage to sort out their financial mess.

The Glasgow giants face a massive £49million tax bill which is seriously damaging the club. Currently involved in two different disputes with HM Revenue and Customs, Rangers have not yet paid a tax bill of almost £3million which relates to staff payments made between 1999 and 2003.

The Daily Record believes that Rangers have no way of paying the overall £49million tax bill, leaving the club with little option but to re-enter the SPL under a new guise, something which would carry with it a massive penalty.

The newpaper then adds up all the potential point deductions (for three consecutive seasons) which could potentially hit 75 points.

Neil Lennon and co. will no doubt be wishing their Glasgow neighbours the best of luck in the coming months.

    how the fuck kin wi git deducted 75 points when if wi go bust the maximum penalty is only 25 points

  2. Loic says:

    75 is the points deductions total after three seasons

  3. qwerty says:

    is this how you spell in scotland?

  4. Juan says:

    This is absolute nonsense, for a start it’s in the SPL rules that a club entering administration during a season will be deducted 10 points. Secondly the three season scenario only applies IF Rangers stay in administration for the three seasons. The Scottish gutter press doing their utmost to print negative sensationalist rubbish against Rangers.

  5. Jon says:

    @pratty
    If you read the post you’d see that it’s the cumluative total of 3 seasons worth of deductions, 75/3 = 25.

  6. Mr. Sparkle says:

    Rangers and Celtic are both a negative force in Scottish football. If one of them fell out of the running, I wouldn’t mind the least. In fact, I would cheer it on. Now only if Celtic was to be deducted points…

    @pratty- what a pratt

  8. Dusty says:

    The world would be a better place if Rangers didn’t exist.

    if rangers got these points deducted and could possibly be relegated it would just clear the way for Celtic to run away with the spl lets face it theres only 2 real football clubs in the spl its probably the most boring league in Europe certainly the most predicable to boot in the same class as say an english div one club so would this be such a loss for scottish football at least it would give some others clubs hope of some glory

    @ Dusty:

    If Rangers and Pratty didn’t exist it would be a better place.

  11. Mr. Sparkle says:

    @bri revan, Portugal is actually worse (statistically) only because five teams have ever won titles in the whole entire history while in Scotland eleven have won a title in the history of the league.

  12. Degs says:

    Rangers could get deducted 75 points and still probably finish 2nd.

    That’s Scotch football for you!
