An Italian teenager who fell into a coma after being trapped underwater for 42 minutes miraculously regained consciousness this weekend, and with one thing on his mind.

The 14-year-old, known only as ‘Michael’, became trapped after jumping into a canal in Milan.

Larking around with his friends, Michael jumped off a bridge in Cuggiono into water just 6.5-feet deep. However, his heart stopped beating while he was submerged and he disappeared, conked out and assumed dead.

It took a fire service dive team 42 minutes to find him, rescue him and drag him from the canal bed. Michael’s heart was then restarted with a defibrillator, though he remained unconscious as he was taken to hospital in San Raffaele.

Miraculously, after four weeks of treatment (including the amputation of his right leg), the youngster awoke from his induced coma this weekend.

According to the Independent, the doctor on duty, Alberto Zangrillo (who also acts as personal physician to none other than Silvio Berlusconi) told Italian media that the youngster’s resuscitation was “the greatest satisfaction of my entire professional career”

The first thing Michael wanted to know upon his return to the waking world? Whether or not Juventus were still in the Champions League.

Fortunately, it was good news. Now about that leg…
