The world and his dog have been quick to pass judgement on Gonzalo Higuain after the Argentinian striker recently (briefly) became the third most expensive footballer in history when he completed his big £75.3million move from Napoli to Juventus.

Higuain made his debut for Juve in a friendly against West Ham last weekend, with many independent observers noticing that the 28-year-old forward appeared to be carrying a little bit of excess timber around the midriff.

Robert Prosinecki was one of many who were surprised at the sight of Higuain’s supposed spare tyre, with the gruff ex-Croatia international going out of his way to weigh in – see what we did there? – on the debate.

According to Football Italia, Prosinecki, who is now 47 and head coach of the Azerbaijan national side, made the following exclamation in an interview with Croatian newspaper Jutarnji List:

When I saw him I was shocked. He’s even fatter than me!

Juventus paid €90million for Higuain and a pig arrived in Turin instead. I can imagine Max Allegri’s shock after insisting so much on his signing.

In the end though, I’m sure they’ll get him in shape quickly.

If Prosinecki’s mercurial playing days are anything to go by, then Hig the Pig just needs to foster himself a nice little 20-a-day smoking habit and he’ll be right as rain in no time.

The weight will just fall off.
