Spain Soccer Champions League

Diego Costa’s 28th and 29th goals of the season helped Atletico Madrid comfortably extend their aggregate lead over AC Milan last night to reach the Champions League quarter-finals for the first time since 1997, with the Brazilian/Spanish (delete as applicable) striker’s first goal of the night definitely worth a second look.

With the ball clipped over to Costa at the far post, the forward unfolded himself in mid-air and somehow managed to connect with a full-stretch volley that he steered impressively past Christian Abbiati in the Milan goal…

However, it didn’t all go Costa’s way on the night, oh no – Mario Balotelli’s stomach-seeking missile of a freekick saw to that…

Atleti went on to win 4-1 on the night, thus adding to their 0-1 first-leg win in Milan – we’ll have a full match report, highlights and photos up shortly.
