Soccer - International Friendly - Nigeria v Scotland - Craven Cottage

We must admit we’re not entirely sure he meant it, but we’re willing to give Charlie Mulgrew the benefit of the doubt after the Celtic forward scored with a nifty little back-heeled lob against Nigeria at Craven Cottage last night.

Our initial reaction was that Mulgrew was merely trying to stun James Morrison’s wayward shot back across the front of goal where a couple of his team-mates lay in wait – but perhaps we’re just getting too cynical in our old age, who knows?

Anyway, enjoy…

Here’s the GIF, just in case the video gets stripped…

Forward? Try left back, sometimes centre half, sometimes DM…

  2. usrick says:

Based on the expression on his face, I’d say Mulgrew was the most surprised man on the pitch when the ball ended up in the net.

  3. Jarren says:

    Haha, total fluke.

He claims that as deliberate, shame on him.

I see Charlie play every week so i can confidently assure you hé meant it. He often plays this kind of clever little flick, though i have never seen one as an attempt on goal before now. Charlie plays full back sometimes, center back sometimes. Charlie plays center mid sometimes, but hé has never in his career played forward. So perhaps here the benifit of the doubt should go to you. All things considered i give you the benifit of the doubt that you actually really are a football writter!

  5. Jarren says:

    Nice try, Phil.

    Still a fluke.

He plays left mid and he plays left back. Even centre half and he’s never slack. He’s our prodigal son and he hates the Hun. Charlie Mulgrew Charlie Mulgrew.

Meant it. Just shocked it came off!
