As the old adage goes: If you’re going to score a goal that takes your largely unfancied, newly-promoted team to the top of the Bundesliga, do it from 80+ metres away.
That’s exactly what Paderborn midfielder Moritz Stoppelkamp did yesterday afternoon, humping one in from 83 metres out (a Bundesliga record by the way) against Hannover to cap a 2-0 victory that sent his side to the top of the table on goal difference.
Taking advantage of Hannover ‘keeper Ron-Robert Zieler coming up for a late corner, the ball broke loose, fell to Stoppelkamp and he did the decent thing by sticking it in from the edge of his own box…
