It came as a slight shock to hear that they were his first two goals at international level, but Jack Wilshere came up with a couple of stupendous first-time stonkers as England just about saw off Slovenia with a 3-2 victory in Ljubljana this afternoon.

The first was a peach to draw England level at 1-1 just before the hour mark, connecting sweetly to bury the ball past Samir Handanovic…

The second 15 minutes later was even better, with the Arsenal midfielder cannoning an absolute pearler into the top corner despite the ball appearing to sit up a little awkwardly just before he thwacked it…

Spectacular. In off the bar too, which always helps!

Wayne Rooney then nabbed the third to seal the win in the closing minutes – moving level with Gary Lineker in the all-time stakes in the process.

We’ll have full match highlights and photos up as and when.
