The one and only Rene Higuita has marked the 20-year anniversary of his most iconic contribution to the great footballing pantheon by recreating his infamous ‘Scorpion Kick’ against England at Wembley in 1995…again.

Having been a fed a ball from a willing accomplice stationed in his swimming pool, Higuita, who turned 49 a week or so ago, arched his back and pulled off his legendary acrobatic manoeuvre for the cameras one more time…

Nice, though you really don’t have to go far to find examples of Higuita re-enacting his moment of glory.

Here’s El Loco pulling off a scorpion kick during his last ever professional appearance at the age of 43…

Once more on Arabic television…

Hell, he’s even managed to crow-bar it into an advert for Colombian fruit juice…

I was at that game, and i’m pretty sure that when (i think it was Jamie Redknapp) put the ball forward, he was just punting it because there was already an offside flag or something. As spectacular as it was, i am 90% sure it wasn’t actually in open play, so have never understood why it’s been so lorded.

I was only 10 at the time, so maybe utterly wrong about that one.
