It took two late goals, but Marseille eventually cantered to a 2-0 win over Strasbourg on Tuesday evening thanks to goals from two ex-Premier League players.

Former Tottenham urchin Clinton N’Jie made the breakthrough in the 79th minute before Dimitri Payet put the game to bed with an audacious goal just a few minutes from time.

Indeed, Payet quite literally left Strasbourg goalkeeper Alexandre Oukidja nursing shattered ankles after flooring him with a devastatingly powerful body swerve…

Unfortunately, Payet’s hip shimmy was so robust that Oukidja was duly forced to leave the pitch on a stretcher. We ain’t even kidding.

Some speculate that it was simply retribution on Payet’s part for Oukidja saving a Marseille penalty earlier in the game, though we couldn’t possibly speculate.

This is how the unfortunate incident was covered by Strasbourg’s official Twitter account…

“In the wake of the goal, Alexandre Oukidja remains on the ground. He is forced to come off and be replaced by Landry Bonnefoi for the final minutes of the match. What bad luck we have with goalkeepers.”

“Oukidja has suffered an internal lateral ligament injury. He put his foot on the ground and tried to turn, but then felt a pain.”

Sounds nasty. We’ll pray for him.

Translation on the second quote is a bit off, Mr. Pies. The ‘support’ he took wasn’t medical, it was on the ground. He’s saying : “He put his foot on the ground, wanted to go back the other way and felt a pain.”
