Perfect Friday afternoon viewing, a saliva-inducing video compendium of Barcelona’s diminutive string-puller-in-chief, Xavi, highlighting his unique strain of artisan midfield majesty during the season just past.

Many people still us ask why Pies repeatedly fawn over Senor Hernandez to the point of all-encompassing man-crush…

…that is why.

Fawn more WAATP,please. That was awesome. A quite outstanding player. Spacial awareness beyond belief in the middle of the park.

If only English Scouts could see it doesn’t matter about your size, but about your football intelligence to be scouted……

best midfielder i’ve ever seen. so…best ever. in my opinion. pure class.

  8. MCE says:

All example here are long passes and through balls. It is actually what you least expected from a playmaker.

I acknowledge his quantity and accuracy percentage of his passes per game are very outstanding but please keep in mind that majority of them are actually short 5-10 yard passes which also is in theme with the tiki-taka principle whether its Barcelona or the Spain national team. From my observation, actually most of his pass although very very precise, is in fact quite slow.

I’d like to suggest that Xavi is overrated, as the way Barcelona played, those runs his teammates made are the highlights here. For every situation, Xavi has more than 2 options to pass, as these decoy runs that made the space for his pass in the first place.

I’m a bit annoyed as seeing him always get labeled as the best passer of the ball/best midfielder in the world/sex god?? when there are other players which i regard being on par with him.
Michael Laundrup, Paul Scholes, Andrea Pirlo, Josep “Pep” Guardiola himself all are modern footballers that are actually had same/better passing ability while having other dynamics as a player which ranges more than Xavi does.

    Anyone care to suggest otherwise?

  9. Jordon says:

I know he’s so good, and I know he threads the passes that no one else can even do. But he gets a little bit more time on the ball than he would if he played in the EPL.

  10. Sandj says:

@Mce the fact that he always has two other options but mostly goes for the correct one(something many good passers get wrong half the time) tells you a lot already and besides in the video they show some of his long distance passes.

To use specific examples, he has ran utd ragged TWICE!!!! his control, decision and overall timing are attributes that differenciates him from others. All in all I think your wrong, he is the best passer of all time.

  11. Varun says:

    2008 Euro 2008
    2009 UCL 2009
    2010 WC 2010
    2011 UCL 2011

He isn’t overrated you MORON “MCE”, learn some football,
he has 2 options to pass and when he doesn’t have the ball he HIMSELF is part of that philosophy of offering himself to be passed.

    5 yard pass? so what,
you seriously need to watch more proper football, it took 2 yards of movement to render the BEST BPL had to offer to utterly shit themselves in 2011 UCL final.
5 yards is MORE than enough for you.

  12. jean-pierre says:

all of u are blind and stupid. xavi is deff not the best passer in the world nor the best midfielder. that would b the great zizou, which i consider 2nd best, 1st being maradona. 3r messi (until he wins a WC lol then hell b 1st)

  13. seraf says:

mce, you still dont get it,one qustion for you to think about.. why didnt man u press him like they do in other epl games..

  14. base on my analysis Xavi’s is the best midfielder currently in the world as it relates to football

  15. Xavi says:

Iniesta is better I pass backwards too much
