When it comes to intense inter-club derby rivalries, a few may come close but it’s generally agreed that none come bitter-er on the face of this green Earth than those which exist between Boca Juniors and River Plate.

The two Buenos Aires clubs are set to play each other twice in the two-legged Copa Libertadores Final this month, with the first game scheduled to take place at La Bombonera this coming Saturday.

While an official decision is yet to be made, it’s thought that away fans will be banned from entering the respective stadiums (just as they have been across the country since 2013) in an attempt to increase security and reduce the ever-impending threat of violence.

However, that didn’t stop a pre-match argument between two rival fans about the Superclasico from getting completely and utterly out of hand, as reported by freelance Argentinian football writer Peter Coates…

Details are a little scarce, but we’re assuming/hoping that nobody was harmed in the fire.

Pure distilled insanity, and frankly nothing less than we’d expect from the wacky, life-endangering world of Argentinian football.
