Football GIF: Was Emmanuel Adebayor’s High Lunge On Santi Cazorla Worthy Of A Red Card?

Brilliant game, thanks largely to Manu getting a bit carried away after 18 minutes…

Not the worst ‘horror’ tackle ever committed that’s for sure (it looked far, far worse in real time), but it’s hard to argue with it being red-worthy – not really by our standards, but by those that matter. Ref’s are notably more tetchy about this kind of ‘forceful’ lunge than ever before, and Adebayor pushed his luck too far by flying in.

What say you Pies fans? Red-worthy or not?

Redder than Fergie’s nose after a whisky

  2. stonedwasherman says:

    Of fucking course…

  3. redcard says:

if this isn’t a red card the what is?????? cmon pies get serious….

  4. ian says:

    I agree with stonedwasherman.
It was a Knee height tackle, late and he jumped off the floor.

  5. Joe says:

I usually agree with u pies but ur talking out of your arse

  6. Bizzle says:

Correct decision, always a red card in my mind

  7. bob says:

its so obvious that he is going in to injure the player, he plays football for a living, in my opinion they always know what they are doing and the risks of it as well as the benefits.

  8. Jarren says:

I think everyone is in agreement.

I would assume that even die hard Spurs fans (let alone AVB) are pretty pissed off with Emmanuel right now.

He’s so unpredictable, and that’s a good thing AND a bad thing.

As we say in Norn Iron, “wise up mate”.

  9. nat says:

This is not a red card. His leg has to be broken and his career ended for it to be a red card. Straightforward really.

  10. Jack says:

how could you even think that isn’t a red????? The challenge was high and late, both prerequisites for a red card

  11. angry football fan says:

never a red! just bloody look at it! does it ever look like he was gna hurt santi…no! i dont get this at all. Football is slowly dying and its because of stuff like this. “contact” “raised foot” “follow through”…MAN THE FUCK UP!!!

  12. bob says:

its so funny how many people are opposed to pies, the incident doesnt actually matter any more.

  13. D says:

I could possibly see why this is a yellow, but a red? Surely not!! It was a ‘high’ challenge because that’s were the ball is how else is he meant to challenge for the ball, plus I don’t see the ‘jumping in part’ he was only lowering himself down..oh and I’m not a Spurs or Adebayor fan before you start saying I’m biased.

  14. Bananas says:

I really hope nat isn’t serious.

  15. DiamondJack says:

More shock-to-read posts from pies here. Stupid thing to say. If santis leg was planted it would of snapped in two. He’s lucky the momentum was with him or that’s another career threatening injury to an arsenal player. Can’t believe you feel you have to write sensationalist rubbish in order to get people to read on this site!

  16. :) says:

yeah this really can’t be anything but a red. studs up – forceful contact with his studs – no ball – sliding in.

  17. congo says:

Pretty sure howard webb took adebayor’s reputation versus arsenal(stamp on RVP’s face) into account, and concluded this way more than likely intentional.

  18. Patrick says:

Redder than Santi’s hat at Christmastime. (See what I did there? Clever eh?)

  19. Miguel - NYC says:

    Straight red indeed.
Football is not dying because of red cards, football is dying because dumb asses think a foul like this belongs in football. Players and teams that want to play beautiful football and please the crowd pay the price when players like Cazorla get injured. As someone noted, had he had his leg on the floor, Cazorla’s leg could have been broken. Does it have to get to that point for it to be a red? Football is not MMA.
