Tottenham Hotspur 1-0 Swansea City – Premier League – 25th August 2013

Soccer - Barclays Premier League - Tottenham Hotspur v Swansea City - White Hart Lane

Summer signing Roberto Soldado was on hand once again to fire Spurs to victory from the penalty spot on Sunday.

Andre Villas-Boas’ side had the better of things in the first-half but just couldn’t add a clincial edge to some excellent build-up play, even seeing Swans’ defender Ashley Williams head against his own post.

Just before half-time, Jonjo Shelvery looked to have fouled Andros Townsend inside the Swansea box, only for referee Neil Swarbrick to only award the home side a free-kick.However, just before the hour-mark, those same two players clashed again in the Swans’ penalty area, with Swarbrick this time pointing to the spot. Although to be fair, there was feck all contact. Soldado stroked home the subsequent spot-kick and despite rallying, the visitors couldn’t level the scores leaving the Lilywhites with a 100% record at the start of the new season.
